Our 5th and final visit to La Martinière as we have now bought our own piece of France! We have always enjoyed our time here and David and Helen are such wonderful hosts. This time we enjoyed the Parmentier de Boeuf for our arrival supper and to celebrate the purchase of our new home, David made us Escargot and mushroom Forestiere followed by Steak Diane et Frites which were as superb as ever.

Notre 5ème et dernière visite à La Martinière car nous avons maintenant acheté notre propre morceau de France ! Nous avons toujours apprécié notre séjour et David et Helen sont des hôtes merveilleux. Cette fois-ci, nous avons dégusté le Parmentier de Bœuf pour notre dîner d'arrivée et pour célébrer l'achat de notre nouvelle maison, David nous a préparé des Escargots et une Forestiere de champignons suivie d'un Steak Diane et Frites qui étaient toujours aussi superbes.

Wonderful time relaxing at David and Helen’s gite, which was exactly as described and as we wanted. Spotlessly clean and really well decorated to a high standard and furnished with a great super-king sized bed. Absolutely perfect for couples looking to relax or use as a base for exploring further afield or the local area. Definitely worth taking them up on the food as it was all excellently cooked and presented - both breakfast and the evening meals. Will be hard pressed to find many other places matching this for quality and comfort, and really friendly and attentive hosts.

Merveilleux moment de détente dans le gîte de David et Helen, qui était exactement comme décrit et comme nous le souhaitions. D'une propreté irréprochable, il est très bien décoré et équipé d'un grand lit. Absolument parfait pour les couples cherchant à se détendre ou à utiliser comme base pour explorer plus loin ou la région locale. Cela vaut vraiment la peine de les prendre au mot sur la nourriture car tout était excellemment cuisiné et présenté, que ce soit le petit-déjeuner ou les repas du soir. Il sera difficile de trouver beaucoup d'autres endroits comparables en termes de qualité et de confort, et des hôtes vraiment sympathiques et attentifs. 

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour dans ce gîte charmant, paisible, le logement est très confortable et bien meublé. La terrasse et le jardin sont un plus très appréciable. Enfin, les autres ont été réactif, accueillant et extrêmement gentil.

We had a lovely stay in this charming, peaceful gîte, the accommodation is very comfortable and well furnished. The terrace and garden are a great plus. Finally, the others were responsive, welcoming and extremely kind.

Lovely little cottage in a beautiful countryside setting. David and Helen were extremely welcoming and hospitable. The gite has been beautifully and thoughtfully renovated, is very well organised and clean. David is also a great cook and we enjoyed a delicious welcome supper as well as a superb full English breakfast during our stay. Recommended!

We had such a wonderful stay! The hosts were incredibly lovely and welcoming, making us feel right at home. The peaceful, beautiful natural surroundings added to the relaxing atmosphere. The property itself is amazing – the kitchen and living room are spacious and well-equipped, with a cozy wood fire that made evenings extra special. The bedroom was generously sized, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Everything has been thoughtfully arranged to a high standard, clearly designed with guests’ comfort in mind. Excellent value for money – we couldn’t have asked for more!

Nous avons passé un séjour merveilleux ! Les hôtes ont été incroyablement gentils et accueillants, nous faisant nous sentir comme chez nous. Le calme et la beauté de l'environnement naturel ont contribué à l'atmosphère de détente. La propriété elle-même est incroyable - la cuisine et le salon sont spacieux et bien équipés, avec un feu de bois confortable qui a rendu les soirées encore plus spéciales. La chambre à coucher est de taille généreuse et le lit est exceptionnellement confortable. Tout a été aménagé avec soin et selon des normes élevées, clairement conçues pour le confort des hôtes. Excellent rapport qualité-prix - nous n'aurions pas pu demander mieux !

An idyllic location which brough back memories of my time as an au-pair. Rural, calm and away from the world. The weather was kind for the time of year and it was lovely to sit on the terrasse with a pot of tea and a good book. I very much enjoyed exploring the area and preparing the impending school trip with 70 pupils. Not so calm then .......

Un endroit idyllique qui m'a rappelé mes souvenirs de jeune fille au pair. Rurale, calme et loin du monde. Le temps était clément pour cette période de l'année et il était agréable de s'asseoir sur la terrasse avec une tasse de thé et un bon livre. J'ai beaucoup aimé explorer la région et préparer le voyage scolaire imminent avec 70 élèves. Pas si calme alors .......

Nous avons passé un très agréable weekend aux Hirondelles. Le cadre est ravissant, paisible, et le gîte encore mieux que sur les photos : bien équipé, confortablement meublé, avec une vue sur le jardin très bien entretenu. La grande baie vitrée donne la possibilité d’observer de jolis petits oiseaux. Nous avons aussi passé de belles soirée au coin du feu. David et Helen sont très accueillants, et attentionnés. Ils ont allumé le poêle avant notre arrivée et nous ont donné des idées de visites dans la région. Une seule petite chose à préciser (mais qui ne nous a pas dérangé), il peut y avoir un peu de bruit, si le 2e gîte mitoyen est occupé par quelqu’un. Encore un grand merci à David et Helen, nous recommandons vivement les Hirondelles et reviendrons sûrement passer un weekend prochainement !

We had a lovely weekend in Les Hirondelles. The setting is lovely, peaceful, and the cottage is even better than in the photos: well equipped, comfortably furnished, with a very well maintained view of the garden. The large glass window gives the opportunity to observe pretty little birds. We also had a lovely evening by the fire. David and Helen are very welcoming, and caring. They lit the stove before we arrived and gave us ideas for visits to the area. Only one small thing to specify (but which didn't bother us), there may be a little noise, if the 2nd adjoining cottage is occupied by someone. Another big thank you to David and Helen, we highly recommend the Hirondelles and will surely come back to spend a weekend soon!

A fantastic few days staying at La Martinière, the gîte was so comfortable and cozy. A perfect base to explore the area out of season when places were so quiet. We enjoyed breakfasts and we can honestly say the 3 course dinner we had was as good if not better than any restaurant we ate in. We will return in summer.
